Who We Are
Southwest Christian Church exists for a unique purpose: We believe we have a responsibility to represent the Church found in the New Testament. After years of denominations establishing their own rules aside from the Bible, a group of preachers from several denominational backgrounds got together about 1800 to "restore" the New Testament Church back to its original Biblical
blueprint. From those humble and committed believers was launched a fellowship of Christians who:
- wanted to wear the name "Christian" only (no other human or denominational names were needed).
- believe, practice and preach the Bible only (no other human creeds or man-made doctrines allowed).
Pay particular attention to how people in the New Testament responded when accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. With all the confusion over how to accept Christ in the religious world today, we believe we are safe in God's Will by going back and following what they did in the New Testament. We would challenge you to read the book of Acts and see what people were told to do when accepting Jesus as their Savior. (Example: Acts 2 : 36-40 says;)
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." (NIV)
Our purpose today is not to be one more religious group trying to win people to our way of thinking, but to represent the Church found in the New Testament and join you to equip you to live in this diverse day and age, with the mind of Christ.
We do not believe that we are the only Christians, but we do want to be Christians only.
